Staff of The Solar Center
The staff of The Solar Center has over four decades of experience in designing, installing and servicing solar electric and solar hot water systems in the tri-state area.
Ed Steins, Chief Executive Officer
Ed has been associated with the energy, building materials
and construction industries for 25 years. He has been the CEO/COO of
three other entrepreneurial companies and grown them successfully and
profitably. He has worked across most company functions including
sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing, installation, logistics,
procurement, and R&D. Most recently, he was a Partner in a $30 million
services provider in the energy industry, serving divisions of Fortune
100 companies. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from
the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of California,
Los Angeles (UCLA).
Shannon Whitworth Kayen, President / Chief Operating Officer
Founding member and President, Shannon Whitworth Kayen, leads The Solar Center with five years in the solar energy industry. Prior to joining The Solar Center, Shannon was a founding member of two other startup companies in the renewable energy sector with experience in sales, marketing and organizational development. Prior to the renewable sector, Shannon worked in the non-profit environmental sector at The Nature Conservancy of New Jersey and started a Tennessee based non-profit volunteer recruitment organization.
Gerry Heimbuch, VP Commercial Initiatives
Gerry Heimbuch, VP Operations, is responsible for Project Management, Procurement, IT & Marketing. Prior to joining the Solar Center he worked for several fortune 100 companies such as ITT, MCI, Worldcom & EDS. In addition Gerry has been a founding member of 3 successful startup companies in the energy, retail & marketing sectors. Gerry started at the Solar Center in January 2008 to re-define new operational processes and IT systems. Gerry is versatile executive with 30 years of experience facilitating growth, reducing costs and driving revenue for a diverse range of companies in industries such as marketing, technology, finance, telecom, retail and energy.
Daniel Kaderabek, Eastern Regional Sales Manager
Daniel joined The Solar Center Sales Team in January 2009 as an Eastern
Region Sales Manager. Prior to joining the team, Daniel grew market
share and serviced existing technology industry customers as a Global
Customer Manager with several leading logistics companies, including DHL
and Panalpina. Daniel's current responsibilities are focused on
developing commercial solar business and supplementing sales with The
Solar Center's existing residential customer base. Daniel graduated
from Clemson University with a BA in International Relations.
Steve Lawrence, Engineering Manager
Steve is a NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) Certified Solar PV InstallerTM and manages our in-house and external specialist team of electrical, mechanical, and NABCEP and PE certified engineers and site surveyors. The vast majority of The Solar Center design work is performed in house by our own employees. Over the past four years, Steve has personally completed over one hundred and sixty-five solar system designs that are fully installed and operational, totaling over 2 MegaWatts. He has a Bachelor's in Mathematics from New York University and a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.
